James Oliveira-Agnew
Call to the Bar 2008
Crime, Immigration, Motoring, Family, Civil
James has a busy mixed practice with specialisms in serious sexual offences, road traffic, immigration and family law.
He has experience dealing with all levels of criminal cases including fraud, motoring offences, violent crime, theft and drug related offences. He regularly appears in the Crown Court and the Youth Court.
James has developed a specialism in serious sexual offences and regularly appears in cases involving these matters, including those with vulnerable defendants and witnesses. He has appeared in the Court of Appeal when the Attorney General has attempted to show sentences were unduly lenient.
Along with defending criminal matters James also prosecutes and is CPS approved prosecution advocate.
In immigration James appears on behalf of appellants before both tiers of the Immigration Tribunal. He also represents clients seeking bail from detention centres. A strong believer in human rights, James acts on behalf of those that would otherwise face an uncertain or dangerous future.
James deals with all aspects of family law, including non-molestation orders and prohibited steps orders. He also represents parents in both public law and private law children disputes including contested hearings concerning issues of contact, residence and parental responsibility. These cases often include the Local Authority and Children’s guardian.
Along with the specialisms above James can also be instructed on all civil matters including fast track and multi-track claims.
He was called to the bar in 2008 and is a member of Middle Temple, where he is a facilitator on the vulnerable witness training programme.
